This prime, small group intimate Alaskan dog mushing tour out of Fairbanks will take you into the real Alaskan dog sledding world with its mesmerizing nature and wilderness away from the crowds and busy life. You get to meet the new born puppies, world class lead dogs and experience the authentic dog mushing culture and passion of training and selecting race dogs for the Iditarod or Yukon Quest here in our Nenana based Alaskan husky kennel just south of Fairbanks, Alaska. You will feel the love to nature and the traditional Alaskan dog mushing life style at the capital of dog sledding, Interior Alaska and Fairbanks.
You will experience Alaskan huskies, world class race sled dog teams perform. You will learn to ride with them in or behind the sled. This dog sled tour will get you deeper into the authentic Alaskan dog mushing lifestyle in Fairbanks, the capital of dog sledding in Alaska.
This Alaskan wilderness dog sled tour will start with a pick up from your Fairbanks hotel, so you will not need to organize or hire transportation, we take care of it for you. Following is a scenic ground tour to Nenana just south of Fairbanks. The drive is part of the attraction of this wonderful afternoon tour. On clear days the stunning 40min ride to Nenana on the scenic Parks Highway will offer some of the most spectacular views in Fairbanks of the Alaska Range and its up to 20,000ft peaks. These are the highest mountains of the continent and a special phenomenon to capture. We will stop and give you time to capture the beauty of this Alaskan mountain scenery.
After arriving at the dog kennel and being welcomed in our beautiful lodge, you will be supplied with proper dog mushing gear and arctic grade clothing. Our friendly staff will help you get familiar with your dog team and teach you to harness dogs. You will also get to spend time with our precious puppies!
After a first warm contact with the dogs our highly experienced professional Alaskan mushers and guides will be thoroughly teaching you the mechanics of dog mushing. You will be learning hands on from world-class dog mushers. Now you can be a passenger on the dog sled, which will be leading you into the outback of Alaska for a good 90 minute ride.
This amazing tour is not just a ride around the block. You will get to ride on 7-9 miles of trail through the beautiful Alaskan winter country with its typical black spruce and birchwood forests, lakes, and creeks. With a little luck you may even see moose, wolf or other Alaskan wildlife.
The tour is timed for you to also experience the amazing Alaskan sub-arctic winter sunset (fr. Nov.-Feb. tours). This phenomena so deep in coloration, while surrounded by mystical landscapes will give you an even stronger connection with the Alaskan dog mushing experience. It may not come as a surprise that you feel one step closer to being a dog musher yourself now!
Last but not least we are heading inside our beautiful lodge to round up a dog sled tour that seeks no comparison. After delicous snacks, hot drinks, and a reflection on the great adventure we will be sent off as friends to travel back to Fairbanks. After the sun has finally set you are at your hotel timely for any of your other activities such as Aurora Ice Fishing or dinner reservations you may have already planned for the evening.
